This is the first time I've heard such an in-depth opinion from somebody who's had exposure to the book/play, so this is very interesting.

As for the yandere not being a trope in France, I think only Japan has actually given the archetype a "proper name". I have heard many say "Borderline personality disorder" is the best equivalent translation, but BPD episodes aren't necessarily "triggered" by romantic relations alone- thus, it's an inaccurate "translation". Yandere themes have apparently existed for many, many years before the term "yandere" was created. For example, the entire focus of the book/movie/play, "

I'm French and I'm currently living in France. But I don't really understand what you mean by yandere not being a trope in my country. So can you explain it ( what does yandere really mean?). If you do I might be able to agree or desagree with you.

A yandere character is a character that appears to be loving and sweet, but hides a crazily obsessive and/or possessive nature. When they admire or love somebody (a friend or love interest, but usually the latter), their love for them becomes so strong that it becomes psychotically destructive.

There are two main types of yandere, but a yandere can be both of these:

Obsessive: They get completely obsessed with the love interest, to mentally unstable degrees. Obsessive yanderes tend to stalk their love interests for every little information about them they can get. They also can go to extreme lengths to "get rid of the competition", which often results in violence.

Possessive: This type of yandere is so in love with their love interest, that they become insanely possessive, and in extreme cases, totally unwilling to allow their interest to spend time with others. Possessive yandere do stalk as well, but usually to keep tabs on their love interests. This type of yandere commonly end up imprisoning their love interests. In more violent endings, they kill their love to prevent others from "taking them away".

I think what spicy_diamond was trying to say was that there is no French equivalent word for "yandere." I wouldn't know if that's true, seeing as I don't know any French.

Laramie has really said and explained it all, I don't think there is much more to be said about rape in Japan or what Yandere is.... I mean there's not much more to it than that! xD

I don't think there is specific terms for designing a yandere. Otome games are not well known here. But there is one or more in psychologie to evoque a real yandere person. I will ask my friend if he known what it is. But if I was to give you some terms which would qualify such a person that would be : a split personnality ( un dédoublement de la personnalité), obessesive lover (amoureuse obsedé) et psychotique. I think it is somehow alike to schizophrénie in psychology ( schizophrenia in english).

oh gosh, thank you for the game listing. That's really super helpful. It's always such a minefield trying to figure out which R-18 games might be not gross.

From what I understand, violent yandere behavioural patterns resemble Borderline personality disorder. It's pretty interesting how closely some English terms resemble French words.

No worries! I'm also checking on VNDb for other R18+ otome games to make the list more complete. Even with the ones I haven't played, I can ask around and check out info based on tags. It's not a lot of trouble to me, since there aren't that many R18+ otome-ge out there.

Great job on the expanded list, Laramie Castiel! That looks like something that warranted a great deal of time... That reminds me, I did play Tsubasa no Oka no Hime, but completely forgot about it because the storyline was so disappointing. It's a shame, really. The art is wonderful, the voice actors did a good job, the basic idea had potential-but it never went anywhere. Hell, it felt like an eroge with multiple male protagonists and one female love interest...Vivian is an interesting character but I couldn't understand anything about her even at the end. I love sexually confident female characters, but she crosses the thin line between adventurous and deviant imo. And yeah there is reverse rape =_= This is the first time I've ever seen a character voiced by Yusa Kouji being the victim and not the aggressor when it comes to rape. lololol

I heard about how Vivian is not the standard R18+ otome protagonist so I was interested, but then when I also heard that it's practically a nukige and its plot is disappointing, I decided to not play it. Maybe I'll play it when I have nothing else to play.

So my friend is currently playing through Hakada Shitsuji, and while that is in no way an otome game (Main character's male, all your romance options are male, THIS IS A BL GAME), its a surprisingly good one?

It knows what it is, it subverts and plays with sterotypes found in BL and VNs, the main character is probably the most relateable and likeable of all MCs ive seen, and it actually manages to appropriately tackle BDSM in better ways than other media has.

I might as well mention that it's a porno game too so if you're looking for a lovey-dovey romance game full of fluff and rainbows this isn't really it.

Also it's hi-larious.

That is absolutely priceless.

Sumire no Tsubomi had some good moments, particularly on the first (almost entirely not 18+) arc of the game that had some that had me giggling. (The heroine has a habit of sewing her younger brother ridiculous clothes among other things... XD) But you don't see much comedy often it seems.

Gets in the way of the smex.

No, porn on consoles basically doesn't exist and probably never will. I'm afraid you can only get R-18 games on PC. There are some PSP games that get quite suggestive, but basically nothing goes higher than like a PG-13 (in American ratings).

It's...okay, I guess. Amateur level art, short and slightly illogical but yet somewhat amusing storyline, sex scenes with epic purple prose that definitely was put there on purpose. There are only a couple CGs...I think only the good end sex scenes had them.

Every time I edit my list and re-read the entries, it just reminds me of how much of a niche market the R18+ otome games are in. There's very little to choose from.

I had heard that there is an attempt to patch PersonA going on... But, considering how long the game is. I wouldn't hold my breath.

On the bright side, on PC means that it's easier to set up Atlas/agth or whatever your preferred text hookers are.
