Hakuouki and the real Shinsengumi

Once again, not really sure where to put this so, I'll post it here.
Okay so, I actually was a fan of samurai's way before I was into otome game. Mostly video games, anime, manga and movies. My all time fav is the most certainly fictional Peacemaker series(manga and anime) which is based off the Shinsengumi. Since info is my hobby I begun researching the Shinsengumi and it's appearance in other forms of media. This eventually lead to the discovery of Hakuouki(among other things). Anyway, one of my biggest complaints was that there wasn't enough Shinsengumi characters in the game but, never fear! There's a new version of Hakuouki called Hakuouki Shinkai! It'll feature more characters! Now moving on the main point:

This is one of the new characters for said game. He is introduced as Takeda Kanryuusai. Which is in fact the name of a real Shinsengumi member who was in fact the 5th Unit Commander! Yes!
I known some info about the real guy but, the info would probably spoil the new parts of the story. No, it would spoil it, no doubt.

As a side note:
There are a total of 10 unit commanders. The ones that haven't appeared in Hakuouki are 4th Unit Commander Matsubara Chuji and 9th Unit Commander Suzuki Mikisaburo. Of course the Shinsengumi was a bit bigger then the game makes it seem if you ask me. It had over 400 members, several accountants, spies/investigators(like Yamazaki Susumu) and corporals. And there's a whole lot over other info that you wouldn't know just by playing the game.

If you want to hear some more info about the actual group just ask. Though because of the time period they were active, the fact that I'm only able to read English and multiple other factors there may be times where I don't have the info you want. Sorry 'bout that in advance.
I'm also interested in info about the group in modern media so you can ask questions about if a character was based off one of the members or general info about the series.

He looks like a mix of Hijikata, Saizo and that annoying guy with make-up and a fan...what was his name again ?

So basically, Hakuouki Shinkai is a remake of the game ?

Do you mean Itou Kashitarou? He's the only character I ever found to be really annoying.

There hasn't been a whole lot of info about this game being released regularly but, from what I can gather it is a remake of the original.
The name Hakuouki Shinaratame/Shinkai pretty much translates as Hakuouki Real Renewal.

Haha. I don't have that many Hakuouki fan friends.

But yeah. My research goes overboard. Perfect when looking for info about games, not so good for writing research papers. My teachers kept telling me I would research too much and there wasn't enough space for any writing...
