Trope Yourself!
Through conversation in a different thread, I became interested in figuring out what trope my husband best fit into. He seems like he could be very tsundere, but is he really? I fell back on tvtropes.org (a site that sucks you in!) for my research and, after comparing [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], decided, yes, he's so tsundere.
Then I thought... what about me? After reading several different tropes, I finally found [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and it fit perfectly. Even before I reached a part that mentions its relationship with tsundere, I knew I'd found my trope. I disagree that this would make me [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] as well which doesn't have the variety in the way the icy personality is displayed.
So now I'm curious... what is your trope? If you were in an anime/manga/game, what type of character would you be? Not who you would like to be, but looking honestly at how you act in real life, what is your trope? Feel free to explain why (or not!). How about your significant other or friends? Do you think a group that already exists in anime/manga/otome portrays your relationships?
Ok, I'll go first!
( ^-^)人(^-^ )
Why Sugar and Ice Personality? Well, whether it's because of shyness or annoyance (or both), I often try to keep people at a distance and freeze up around people I don't know. When I warm up (or act like I'm warming up), I can be a sweetheart, but there's always some [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] waiting to surface. I often get the "I can't believe you'd do that. You're so nice." At which point I laugh at them. Yes, I am nice. I also don't care quite as much as you think I do. I'm fun that way. Or, as my husband calls it, cruel and insane. But I don't think I'm a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] since I don't really have extremes.
I looked in the forum rules and didn't see anything prohibiting linking. (Mods: If it's a No-no, though, just let me know and I'll remove them!) I'm hoping everyone can link their trope for easy reading! Or, tell us the name of a character (and the source material) that's just like you so we have a better idea!
(Oh, I realize that when it comes to the internet, all bets are off. I'm much more open on the 'net and I bet a lot of others are, too. So this is for real life!!)

Re: Trope Yourself!
There are several tropes that encompass me as a person, but do not fit me as a whole.
I am a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]; extremely shy and quiet but I warm up and talk when I am alone with the person. But along with this I am a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], people actually scare me, I can't look them in the eye and I walk with my head down - my hair covering my face.
Despite the shy tropes I actually have something hiding [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - but it's not the typical 'hiding a bitchy personality' I am hiding sass. I love myself, but not like the narcissist trope. I love who I am, I am confident and I think I am beautiful; I just have a fear of people.
I used to just be the shrinking violet who hated herself but somewhere along the line I [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and learnt to love myself.
This was fun!

Re: Trope Yourself!
I don't have much of an attention span for this kind of things so I'll just tell you what I believe I am (I discuss it with my friends sometime so it's kinda reliable)
I'm something inbetween a Deredere and a Himedere. I'm narcissistic (yeah I'm) and by nature I tend to control ^^'' but I guess I'm happy-go-lucky most of the time so no need to run away <.<
oh and I'm a tomboy and I always believe it would be better to the world if I was born a boy but then I get to know animes and otoges with bishounens so I'm happy now ^^
... despite what I said just before, I can be super shy though... maybe it's because I've never really liked someone I don't know much ^^''
yeah..

I'm also a dandere ^_^ at least in real life, I'm not so sure online hahaha.
Sadly, also I'm a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I can do a lot of things but I'm not that good enough in any of them. I have no specialty, so to speak. xD

well it's cool if you're friends with people who have tolerence >.> to be honest I'm more of a spoiled princess if you take it like that.. and my friends say that somehow I can make all the conversation turn to me... like when it's someone else's problem I go on about what 'I' would do .... ORE-SAMA!! (a tomboy himedere maybe ))
heheh but I believe moe or shy is better in a lot of aspects ^^'

Re: Trope Yourself!
@Cuddlebump Aaai, I love your descriptions! You would make a wonderful character! I'd love to see that hidden side come out, particularly when you stand up for something important to you! I keep picturing Hinata from Naruto when I read your description.
@umi~ Ooh himedere. Had to go look it up (despite the name making it obvious, I needed to be certain!) so my -dere vocabulary has grown. I never expected himedere!
@eigen Master of None just gave me flashbacks to college. So hard choosing a major... Good link! It has a lot more on that page that I'm now going to waste 30 mins reading through.
@Kopin Oooh good idea! Which one did you use? (And, like Cuddle, I'm not sure what kanedere indicates.) Anyone have a suggestion for a good one? Googling returned so many that I'm a bit wary. I went with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], which did return the result [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] for me (which is the closest I'd get to Sugar & Ice), so maybe it's accurate? Who knows!
Update: Just got Dandere from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. It was interesting with some strange questions. Still, Dandere and Kuudere are similar, so I'll accept it.

I personally believe that relying on tropes and labels just kinda shoehorns characters and plots and sucks all the creativity out of them. Yes, there's fallbacks and cliches in popular media, but we don't always have to rely on them!

Well obviously, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].Kidding, kidding. I don't think I really fit into one trope because my behaviour is kind of inconsistent but I consistently use "boku" when speaking Japanese so [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] is probably relevant.
lots of people like to call me tsundere though, they're a bunch of liars.

I've taken a tumblr quiz before for this kind of thing. None of the deres fit me. I am the easy going boke that you need in your life. It's even better when I don't have a tsukkomi to knock me around for it XD.
Re: Trope Yourself!
Hmm, let's see, let's see...
When I went and read the quote on [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] page ("A Jack of All Trades, who is incompetent in all of them") it struck a major bull's eye right through mine heart. So I guess that's one of them. I realize I've been told a decent number of times that when I'm not actively interacting with someone, I tend to look intimidating/scary, so I guess the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] trope is appropriate. I'm quiet and shy, but lately I've realize that it has more to do with being unfit to socialize than with shyness, I'm too much of a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that it really... pains me to realize such a thing. >.> I'm very introverted (which is why I had time to type this out instead of, you know... go outside and do stuff) and I guess that most accurate introversion trope for me is [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. Minus the disregard to society's normalcy and whatever. I'm generally a decent person with a [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] that is unfortunate in the way that my tear ducts are shallow as all hell and actually going on a rant turns me into [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

YES the grade question and I'm all "...I'm in college?" But it's just glorious (sometimes) seeing the person's face change while they're panicking and apologizing about getting it wrong. There are advantages like if I'm indulging in something that's meant for younger kids in public, I don't get weird looks from the people around me and that's a big plus because I love cute childish stuff.

Re: Trope Yourself!
@Kopin I wondered if that was the meaning of kanedere but hadn't heard of that. Here's a little money emoticon for you... (・∀・)つ⑩ teehee
@KawaiiMess The less a writer keeps a character in one trope (or in any trope), the more likely they'll have an interesting, well-developed and possibly even realistic character. Still... I find tropes to be fun and enjoy reading about them (and even watching them) and realizing how some relate to real life. Some times you might even find it's [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].
@Topaztan hehehe You know, in those don't-tell-anyone-about-them fantasies about bishies, I'm always a Mary Sue (possibly [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]). And I think Bokukko is awesome! When I took Japanese in college, I was annoyed that I was told there were pronouns I wasn't "allowed" to use to refer to myself. F that!
@Ace of Hearts I didn't know about [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] even though now that I read the description I can think of examples in anime. Cool!
@Her Cheshire Smile (T^T) Waaaah! I empathize with your tropes so much. *crying hug*
@Saefiya Yay, Genki Girl! One of my favorite types of characters to watch. ヽ(´▽`)/ I love the page's description of it, too. Aah, the rest of your tropes make a hilarious combo! And *hug* for the cute being so sadly accurate.
@Eryx ***bumps into Eryx on the street and ( ಠ_ಠ) (σ_σ ) ...... (σ_σ ) ( ಠ_ಠ) never realizes the kindred spirit*** Oh, except we're on the internet, so it's okay. *sends friend request* And yes! I feel like when I'm with someone I'm truly comfortable with, I'm in danger of becoming a chatterbox, but ONLY with them. I've actually gotten pretty good at being superficially polite (thanks to my job), but if anyone wants more than a vague smile as I walk by then I mentally throw up my hands to try to ward them off.

When it comes to pronouns I certainly won't be using ore anytime soon, but then again I won't be using atashi either. The Japanese teacher at the high school I went to thought me using boku was really funny and I'd just switch to watashi like everyone else later. It took him TWO semesters to stop laughing at me & just accept it.

I remember going to a host club and sitting across strangers. My friend asked me what's gotten into me and I was so quiet. I didn't notice it until she told me. She said, "That's so not you haha!". xDD
My previous job is like that too! xD Although I remain cold and stoic with my workmates at first.
