Ib [a horror rpg game]
I've discovered it yesterday (no kidding!) and I'm hooked! I'm not into horror, but this game is strangely fascinating... I'm only at the beginning, but I'm already creeped out by stuff, haha... It seems to be a popular game...
You can download the English version here:

Re: Ib [a horror rpg game]
I adored Ib when I first played it. I'm a huge sucker for creepy surrealism, and Ib uses that to maximum effect that, despite it's graphics, made me love it. (I'm also an IbxGarry shipper but shhhh)
The best thing about it is that it isn't gory at all. It's actually very insightful, the world being shown by a child's eyes, and when seen from a different point of view extremely layered. It uses music and setting in a way most games don't, to creep the player out in ways that gore can't. It's a wonderful game, really. And every character is very understandable, even Mary.
And of course, then there's the foreshadowing. <3

My thoughts exactly!
I finished the game yesterday night
- Spoiler:
- Garry doesn't know who I am! *depressed* I think I'll give it another try to get a better ending...
Re: Ib [a horror rpg game]
It took me multiple tries to get the good ending, ha. And the worst thing is that a few endings actually make you believe they're the good ones. :/ But I guess that's the making of a good game~

What... I didn't know that... I don't want to use a walkthough, but it seems I've got no choice.
The game is surprisingly short. I think the story and the music are its selling points I wonder why a company hasn't bought it yet and refined it to sell it later...

It is a bit short, but that's to be expected as well. Also, the story is perfs. It's an indie game, though, so I doubt that will happen, but hey, free and amazing is a wonderful combo, yes~? :3<

Oh, yes, yes, freeware is LOVE! <3
For an indie game it's surprisingly good! I saw many "serious" artists draw things from it, like Kazuki Yone, I think...

I do believe neko96 was one of the Utaite that modified 'Eh? Ah, Sou' to promote Ib specifically, complete with a pseudo-PV. It's alwasy something fangirl-worthy for me when I see famous artists acknowledging underappreciated things like Ib <3

Re: Ib [a horror rpg game]
I've downloaded the game three times but it doesn't seem to work for me The controls don't work, so I ended up watching someone's Let's Play! on Youtube, although I think that was the smart choice considering I'm typically a 'fraidy cat. Ah, I'm so jealous!
But I really do love the game from what I've seen. The characters are fantastic, the puzzles make you really think, and I love how things just flow together. But the Lady in Red really freaks me out.

Re: Ib [a horror rpg game]
I adore this game. I think it has the perfect mix of story/character development with horror. n_n I was so excited when the update came out last month~
Re: Ib [a horror rpg game]
Ohhh, this game is so good! Even if I'm a total scaredy cat I could enjoy this game. Well I couldn't just not play it with so much beautiful fanart and all the hype. And I'm really glad I did because I'm sold. ≖‿≖

You have to rename the .mp3 files to match the ones on the website
It's not that scary ..except when the lady paintings jumps out of her frame

Thank you! But I'm looking at the .mp3 files and they all seem to be matching. There are a few extras that don't show up on the Song List but I'm sure they're supposed to be there, unless I'm doing it wrong :/

You shouldn't have to rename anything, as far as I know (or at least I didn't have to, anyway)! Did you download the newest version from [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]? I believe your language locale has to be in English, rather than Japanese as well.
Re: Ib [a horror rpg game]
There are some people (like Makise) who has jumbled text on their .mp3 files after they downloaded the game. The game wont work this way.KukiPandora wrote:Saefiya wrote:Makise Sunao wrote:Saefiya wrote:I've downloaded the game three times but it doesn't seem to work for me The controls don't work, so I ended up watching someone's Let's Play! on Youtube, although I think that was the smart choice considering I'm typically a 'fraidy cat. VGboy recently updated the songlist by removing the .mp3 size...this proved to be troublesome.
Ahhh...I lost my songlist too, so yeah I'd recommend not to touch .mp3 files anymore.
The solution would have been:
>Sort the .mp3 according to size
>Match them to VGboys songlist table
>Rename jumbled text
But now the file size description is gone--its now useless :pale:
Ok next question:
Whats your OS?

I did download it from that site, with three different updates. I tried the original, 1.04 (twice), and Ib 1.05 just a few hours ago. I got it to work once but it hasn't worked since.
My OS is Windows 7 64 bit, and it's set on English locale. I know others have had the same problem but I couldn't find any solutions.

IB was a pretty fun game! I'm a huge horror fan and that was one of the first I played outside of Fragile Dreams and Yume Nikki fangames so I have pretty fond memory's of it lol. I havn't played the recent version though... Probably should soon. I really like IBxMary for some reason... BTW, anyone here like Misao? That's probably my favorite indie horror game XD

Re: Ib [a horror rpg game]
IB is so cool~! The art is great, the mood is perfectly created for me, it wasn't too scary and it was short and to the point that it made me want to go back to get the other endings~
I love IB \o/
The Witch's House really did make me jump, but that true ending though ;~;
Misao was so long though D; and YumeNikki, I couldn't bother finishing...idk something about that ending ;~; makes me feel like...why play.
If you want horror/free games then you could try MadFather. That one will have you on your feet between jumpscares and frustration xD I think its the prequel to misao...or something like that

Wow, great thread idea! I finished all versions, and it's one of the best free horror games out there. If you guys liked this one, maybe you'd be interested in:
* The Crooked Man (about 4 hours; double the length of a standard free horror game)
* Mad Father
* Misao
* Paranoiac
