The Mother and Father can be Mama and Papa right? But most of people in the Manila, here in Philippines use Itay and Nanay.  :D

Really? O . O Was I the only one from Manila who uses the words Mama/Ma or Papa/Pa? And my classmates and just people around me in general used Tatay instead of Itay. Idk, Itay/Inay sounds too formal for me. Tatay/Nanay are more casual.

I hope this thread is not considered too forgone to be considered "dead."

Whenever my mother tries to translate phrases into English, she has so much trouble and cannot figure out what the terms would equal. =w= I would say that is part of the reason why her English is rather bad, in spite learning it since childhood.

Although both sides of my family are Filipino, I call my grandparents on my mother's side Grandpa/Grandma and my grandparents on my dad's side Lolo/Lola. My mother calls my grandma "Ma." I just call my parents Dad/Mom when I speak to them. My sib is just... his name, since I won't refer to him as "manong," no matter how much I hear my mother say it.

Since my parents speak different dialects, they cannot understand each other well if they hear the other speaking with their side of the family. They get confused by the colloquialisms and so on, or my mother thinks it sounds too much like Spanish. When my Lolo went to Manila, he was so worried about speaking in Tagalog that he just spoke in English the entire time. XD

I generally just use mama and papa -- but I really use papabear and mamabear because that's how I got used to calling them. xD

The only time I have ever heard "Mama bear" and "Papa bear" was in Got to Believe. OTL I never realized other people use them, too.

Wow that was pretty unique of someone calling their grandparents by their names. My parents would've killed me If I did that.  Bert sweating

Is it only me calling my Mom as Mamski and my Dad as Pops?
