I get really insecure playing otome games, knowing the heroine is good looking.
So this is our time to shine ladies, care to give beauty advices/tips ?

I don't trust beauty sites listed in google, I'd rather hear real advices from you smile

My grandma ate apples every morning, oranges in the afternoon and apples again in the evening. Her skin is super smooth and kind of young. It was amazing :D

Ok, your turn smile

Invest in make-up...a lot xD I find that works best for me >.> cough you know...

But I try to drink at least 4-5 glasses of water a day (I know they say 8 but....I think if you're lifestyle isn't so active idk why I need THAT much water :/ but I think 4-5 servings is enough for a half day).

I also exercise 2-3 times for the week; for about 45-60mins. I find regular exercise and hydration keeps my skin glowing :#

Also, I moisturize my face before bed and in the morning. ^^; These are kinda embarrassing to say xDD

Oh it's not embarrassing, I'm already 26 and I still avoid make-up or anything to put on my face. What do moisturizers do and what is good for the skin?

Haha~ I have low blow self esteem xD

But moisturizers help keep your skin hydrated and glowing and all that stuff~ They have special ones for people with 'problem' skin; acne problems, eczema, dry skin, oily skin etc.

Our bodies need the water to keep hydrated (hence why drinking water is so important), so when we cleanse our faces (and scrub away all the dirt and oil and junk from the day) the moisturizer basically prevents the skin from drying out and re-hydrates it.

So I use a gentle skin exfoliant, to take away all the dirt and excess oil on my face (because I have oily skin ;A; CURSES), and I use an acne-moisturizer afterwards. You don't need to do this routine more than twice a day, too much can cause an excess build-up of oil and stuff.

If the moisturizer leaves your skin feeling oily, or heavy after use, then its not good for you or your skin. It probably means its not good, or not right for YOU. You want one that leaves your skin feeling light, soft and refreshed.

Beauty advices Empty Re: Beauty advices

Post by venenatis-risus 01/05/13, 06:59 am

Personally I find that drinking a lot of water and eating fruits usually keeps your skin fresh, rejuvenated and glowing, especially peaches and watermelon. Moisturiser is only needed for the excessively dry skin, but even that isn't necessary if you keep yourself hydrated. Water really does help with a lot of things such as common cold, acne, scars and the like, so really, I recommend drinking at least 4 glasses of water a day, maybe more depending on your activity.

Apples, however, and citrus fruit, are wonderful for keeping your skin scar/wrinkle free. Also, I find that drinking too many 'hot' drinks, or beverages, such as tea or coffee, can actually deteriorate your skin, but only if you drink it too much without something cool to counter it.

And of course, for hair, I'm rather proud of my hair. (shhhh~!) I find that applying olive oil or pear oil to the scalp overnight and then washing it in the morning with appropriate shampoo leaves my hair looking as if I just went to a beauty salon. Very shiny and silky. But I don't use this too much - 2 times a week is more than enough. Also, soaking a towel in boiling water and wrapping it around your head while the oil is still in, then resoaking it when it cools, improves the result quite a bit. It's a traditional technique used for decades in my culture~ Arabic/Pakistani techniques really are very good for your appearance because they're all natural.

Also, try not to use makeup. Use the bare minimum of makeup in day-to-day life.

I love using makeup! But don't fall asleep with it on, no matter how drunk or tired you are. Get some removal sheets (I use ones with aloe), and you'll be fine.

Beauty advices Empty Re: Beauty advices

Post by Laramie Castiel 03/05/13, 06:10 am

^LOL, that is so true! xD

My sole and moderately unhelpful advice would be this:

DON'T. BE. LAZY!

...But to elaborate:

~ Exercise. You may go, "DUH!", but it helps so much more than just weight management and slimming. Boosting circulation assists in improving detoxification and cell regeneration. Always shower after exercise ASAP if you're prone to breakouts!

~ For any product that will make contact with your skin, it's very important to discern whether you have combination, dry, normal, oily or sensitive skin. Especially for sensitive types- this is so important! Using the wrong types of products can worsen a horrible situation, or be wasted on areas you don't need to improve upon.

~ This may sound obvious... but heaps of people complain that products "don't work" without actually using it extensively. There is no product on the market that will get rid of blemishes from intermittent use. If it says "use it morning and night", that's what you should do everyday, without fail and to the best of your ability. Cleansers and scrubs should be gently massaged on your face and neck at least for two minutes. Only after you finish the product and it doesn't work, you should move onto greener pastures.

~ Don't cheap out. I don't mean only use Estee Lauder or YSL- nothing ridiculous like that. You might get away with using cheap lip gloss, but I strongly recommend against cheap-o face care products. If you want great skin, spending money is inevitable. If you're rich enough, consult advice from a dermatologist. Otherwise, try going to different sections of a mid-to-high end department store and see what they say. Even a chemist is a great idea if you have no idea where to start.

~ Eat right! Of course, go nuts on junk food, but not all the time. Some foods, especially those rich in antioxidants, are great for your skin. Fruit and leafy greens fall into this category. Green tea, carrots, blueberries, salmon and about 2L (9 cups) of water a day are thought to be real winners. If you can afford supplements, try multivitamins, Omega 3, vitamin C and/or zinc varieties.

~ For hair, avoid using non-salon approved supermarket products. Yes, specialist products are expensive, but beauty isn't cheap. Pantene may work, but it rapes your hair! Try using hair products with more natural products in them.

These are very helpful!

I researched *virgin* coconut oil (virgin is important here!), and it's helpful for me. I've used virgin coconut oil on my scalp overnight, and it helps dryness. You don't need to use a lot. It cost me $5, which is pretty cheap for such a big container! Its only ingredient is coconut & has no chemicals. It also has other uses... like in cooking. wink

@venenatis-risus: I wonder if that'll work on all hair types :c What type of hair do you have??

Also, I tried the plain yogurt in my hair thing. You massage it into your combed wet hair and leave it for like 2mins. then rinse it out with cold water. Dry as normal, really makes the hair feel clean and silky. ^^ I can't remember what happens after a couple days though, its been a while since I've done that.

Geh, I'm so bad on the exercise and hydration bits. (...Unless we're talking about swapping the recommended glasses of water for Dr. Pepper. =.=0)

I just did a do-it-yourself sugar scrub though. Really easy about:

1 part sugar (plain white or chunkier raw or be creative and mix em up!)
1.5 part olive oil
+ a couple drops of lavender oil or whatever scent you might like if you feel like extra pampering

Mix it all together and exfoliate to your hearts content! Finish off with a moisturizer of your choice and ooh la la!

(And it doesn't have that stinging side effect that is the danger with salt scrubs!! XD)

Is there any advice for getting rid of dark circles under your eyes? o:

Sorry that I can't give you beauty advice ^w^'
I never used any beauty products or techniques because I never cared about my beauty and I would prefer to make guys fall for me for my personality, not for looks :3 Maybe I'll care more for my appearance once I find M. Right :3

No offence, but looking for a guy that will fall for your personality before your looks is wishful thinking, and a bit naive. I'm not saying it never happens, but it's uncommon. Especially since men are much more visual creatures out of the two sexes. There's nothing wrong with judging people by their looks- the fact is- everyone does it, period. The "wrongness" arises from whether you maintain that shallow judgement even after interacting with that person.

Anyway, some tips I know of myself and have checked around my magazines and online:
~ Improve your sleeping pattern- try and get 7~8 hours of sleep a night.
~ If you're a smoker, try and quit ASAP.
~ Always wear sunscreen when you're going out; at least, around the area.
~ Apply moisturiser day and night. Doesn't have to be an expensive one, though I don't recommend cheap varieties. Especially if you have sensitive skin.
~ Get a prescription of Tretinoin, which is a vitamin A cream, from what I've read online.
~ For puffiness, try putting something cool over your eyes, like cucumbers or cold spoons.
~ For temporary "fixes" invest in a good concealer and foundation. If you're not sure how to look for them, consult a chemist, a dermatologist (if you can afford one) or an assistant at a department store. Lots of online videos and articles are helpful, and maybe even some fashion magazines.

Worst case scenario, your dark circles may be a genetic pigmentary issue (though rare), and can't really be helped unless you get cosmetic surgery. From what I've been reading, if you pull the skin around the area and the dark circles go blotchy, it's supposed to be an indicator that the circles are a pigmentary issue rather than temporary.

I can second the sleep thing. Especially if your sleep cycle is a little bit wonky. (Like mine) Sometimes that's all it takes to help make the dark circles go away.

Another thing that works is tea bags! Let em cool down in the fridge for awhile after initial tea time, then place them over your eyes for 10-15 minutes. Green or black teas are supposed to work best - tannins, doncha know - but, I imagine that some herbal teas would give you that awesome aromatherapy boost.

I can always dream that there is a guy out there who would fall for my personality, ok? TT.TT I know that they always go for looks first, but I can still dream this impossible dream of mine (and that will cause me to be forever alone [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]) That's what happened between my parents, so it's only natural that I would wish for the same thing, right? ;w;

-Sleep doesn't seem to be the issue as I sleep 9-11 hours a day.
-I'm not a smoker, so I don't have to worry about that ^w^
-gonna try the moisturizer one since we have plenty of those that have aloe extract :3
-I'll have to use the cold spoon and cucumber trick when nobody is around xD. If my family saw me with those on my eyes, they would be "WTH ARE YOU DOING?! O.O" and they would think I'm going nutz x3
-it can also be genetic because I don't remember them ever going away ever since I first got them as a kid ¬.¬ Problem is, I'm the only one who has bags x3

I suppose it's only natural. I apologise if I came off as an arsehole; that was honestly not my intention. Dreaming is fine, but sadly, dreaming doesn't get too far in life. sad On the brighter side, though, almost everyone judged by looks first, but to a lot of people, personality is the deciding factor. Even though we're all judged by looks, in the end, beauty is merely opens the gateway and personality is the push-in-the-back needed to walk through it.

I don't think it would be the same if you drink it, because ingesting tea helps more with getting antioidants in your body. Still, it'd be very good for your skin! The reason why the cold tea bags work has more to do with its temperature rather than the leaves itself.

^ I'm glad you didn't misunderstand! The sad thing about the Internet is that you can't detect tone behind somebody's words, so... I feel the need to clear up things a lot. That fishing metaphor might be a bit cheesy, but it's not bad in application. Have a shitty lure, not many fish will come. Have a shitty hook, you can't haul in the prize! ;D

Be sure to have at least one cup of green tea a day! Some may hate the bitterness, but it's so good for you. For those that hate the bitterness, just pinch your nose. Alternatively, don't infuse your tea for too long- that'd make a bitter tea even more bitter.

I eat Tomatoes every day. At least twice a day, morning and night. Thanks to that, my skin had becoming a lot smoother and fairer.. Then, I also drink a tablespoon of honey in the morning or before going to bed. Besides that, I also use night mask before I go to bed 3 times a week... and each time I go back from school or outings, I'd wash my face with lukewarm water to get rid of dusts from the air outside on my skin to prevent oily skin. :D

You could always try making a poultice or a compress! And, of course, drink away, the bags thing is supposed to be after the initial steeping anyway so drinking it just means none of the goodness is going to waste!

Well, my hair is extremely thick and sometimes fluffy, up to my waist, and somewhere in the middle of straight and wavy. But, from my experience, it works on curly, frizzy, or thin hair as well - it doesn't remove split ends, but it does leave a very nice finish~

Oh, yes, and there's that egg treatment as well. One or two eggs, depending on the length of your hair, beaten and then massaged into your hair for about half an hour before showering. You can use just the egg white if you want - it stinks less, but the egg yolk is better for your hair.

Yeah x3 Well.. it's more like it's harder to detect the tone than if you were in a call or talking face to face :3. And everyone has the urge to clear things up. My friend has a bad case of that =.= Everytime she tells a story, she always explains every detail, even those who are irrelevant to the story Dx. Exactly :3, though I can't think of any other metaphor that aren't cheesy x3

Yosh, gonna start drinking green tea during super, though I'm not too worried about my skin x3. I just have 1 or 2 zits on my forehead and a bit of redness on my cheeks. Other than that, my skin is smooth :3. Maybe it's because of the orange juice that I drink every morning and that I only wore make-up once or twice before o:. But I will still drink that tea and put the leaves in some paper towels so that I can let them cool and set on my eyes x3.

How often should I slice cucumbers? Once a day? 3 times a week?

Yeah, if all of that fails, I'll have to get used to wearing a concealer TwT It's not that I don't like wearing make-up, it's just that I would feel really awkward at first x3.

I did it every other night? (uhh so...3-4 times a week) for about 20mins. (cuz I'm impatient) and I did that for about three weeks and saw a noticeable difference. Like ti didn't MAGICALLY disappear, but it was as bad as before for sure, it did look clearer and less dark.

Also, for those of who are self conscious about your smiles ^^; the hydrogen peroxide/baking soda mixture thing does work, you do that every other night or twice a week if you have sensitive teeth. Gradual teeth whitening ftw (b^ ^)b

So I have this thing when the ends of my hair gets dry.

I've read that olive oil works, but just in case, is there anything else out there that can keep my hair from drying out? >_<
