ISO hacking - question

I have question to those literate in the hacking art...
There's a script I want extract from an ISO file and I'm 99% sure it's in a file called "install.dns"... The problem is I have no idea how to unpack/extract it. I opened it in a hex editor and the header is PGD and that's all I know... Any suggestions for helpful tools?

Why wont you rip the .iso in the UMD first then unpack the .iso contents to get the scripts?
I think there was UMDGen to work with UMD's

No, I did upack the ISO. The problem I have is the *.dns file... TT_TT The script is somewhere in this file, but the file itself is compressed somehow...

May I know what game is that...? There's a program called pgdecrypt.exe

then after you use the program...it will have another file... then you have to rename the file to CPK.... here you need to unpack the CPK... I used BMS script here... hope it helps....

(My program/tool is save at my PC.... so I can't really remember...)

I find it funny I was thinking of trying and ripping the files for those and start working on them XD

Ohhh.....yeahhhh... it involved a lot of steps.....

Because the tool is at my PC...so I can't remember the exact name... I used about 4 tool to extract the content.... I just remember pgdecrypt.exe.. go download this first..... then you have to put the INSTALL.DNS with the same file as the pgdecrypt.exe

then you need to use your command line..(dunno what the exact name) just go start and type cmd.exe... let's say you save at E: in folder amnesia...

type E:, then cd amnesia
after that type pgdecrypt.exe INSTALL.DNS

(then wait for a while.....it will create another file....here you have to rename the extension as CPK)

Do this step first....

@rene05: Thanks! I've been looking for someone who had successfully managed to extract Amnesia CGs, now I can bug you!

Um, I got the INSALL.DNS file using UMDGen, decrypted it with pgdecrypt.exe and renamed it to INSALL.CPK, then extracted the CPK file using Luigi’s QuickBMS CPK plugin.
I managed to extract the files successfully, but got a bunch of extention-less files that are classified into folders like ‘bgm’ or ‘chara’. A friend told me to check the hex headers of the files to find out what format they should be in. I opened them in a hex editor, but can't understand what exactly I'm supposed to look for. For example, the bgm files had "RIFF??6?WAVEfmt " in the first line, わからん〜

Guys please do a tutorial for this. Im really interested in the PSP hacking scene!

Ok..you did correct....yes the file has no name...you have to rename it.. from here.. I used Crystal Tile...to check the file.....I think is the same as Hex Editor... the BGM is in HCA format..and now there's no way to convert... I know there's a tool.. but they said it's still buggy....I'm not sure... I haven't tried...

The CG's and background are in back folder... usually the file are in .ar2 or .tf2 format... here I used a program called Localization Tools to convert the image...

(Not all game works....but lucky amnesia crowd can manage to extract the CG out..)

Yesterday, I downloaded the tool and it all went fine and now I've got the script! Hahahaha Now, maybe I will make a translation project of it... When I'm done with Amnesia... Which will take probably a year to translate... D:

How exactly do you know what the file extension is from the headers? I found some lists online, but they only covered the most basic extensions like jpg,png,wav,zip etc. Where did you learn this stuff? If there are any forums where this type of things are discussed I'd like to know.

I'm kind of tech freak.... LOL.... but not so good in it.... you can always check emunews... they have a lot of hacking tool there.. actually I also just started to learn to extract files...

you can use crystal tile to check for the files extension..... the program are available at filetrip...(from GBAtemp forum)

That was my question, where did you learn from? And I do have crystal
tile, but once I open the file, the first words that I can see aren't the
same as the extension.The CG and BG images have "ART2" written inside, now what exactly should I do? Rename it?

I want to know how you knew the BGM are HCA format even though the files had "RIFF" written at the first couple of lines. NVM I checked again, the "sound" folder files did have HCA written inside, but the BGM were different.

Is all searching at google.... not one specific forum...... art2 is .ar2... yes...you have to rename it....

It confuses me how the word in the header isn't necessarily the actual extension-like how the CG files I am trying to extract have "ART2" in the header but they are "ar2" formats actually. I'm trying to figure out a rule on how I can find the actual formats from the headers in the future, I extracted some other ISOs which had different file headers for the CG. How did you know "ART2"==>ar2? I can't find any information on the ar2 format on google. Also can't find the Localization tools anywhere, google gives me weird results :scratch:

I think I type PSP image file extension or name...LOL....... then it pop to me as ar2... so Tim2 must be tm2..just a wild guess.... aiks... did you put psp localization tool..?

If I may ask, what was the extension of the script? I couldn't make it work.

Two ways to read them:

1) Rename the files in "script" folder to *.bin and open them in CrystalTile (remember to switch the coding to Shift_JIS Japanese) and copy the script from there.

2) Open the file in a word processor like Word, Writer but when it asks you what font to use, switch to SimSun or sth like this or any Jap font and Shift_JIS or sth...
