What's your ideal otome game setting/genre
I know we have lots of posts about favourite otome games, but what about favourite setting/genre of otome games? Which ones appeal to you the most?
For example, there are quite a few historical otoges, or ones set in a high school, or a few alternate universes, or time travelling. Which ones are you generally more interested in?
Or perhaps are there any setting or genre that you would love to have, but hasn't yet appeared in a game?

Re: What's your ideal otome game setting/genre
I have to say my favorite setting would be either some sort of workplace setting or an alternative universe. I also love games that involve children the Mc or the guys could actmotherly/fatherly to(*´∇`*). Lol they feel so unrelated but idk why I just love those settings . I like highschool settings too but sometimes I just see it too often
Though I do wish I see more settings like libraries, convenience stores, subways, or coffee shops as the initial or main setting where the mc would often "coincidentally meet" someone especially for shorter games because I find stories in those seemingly insignificant everyday settings so fluffy~
As for longer games though with more intricate plots I'd love to see more of the college/uni setting or the underwater setting whether it be futuristic (submarines or underwater cities) or fantasy (mermaids and sea creatures)
What's yours?

Nice! I love the underwater setting ideas! I would love to play one for that. just imagining the visuals gives me so much excitement.
I personally really like historical or epic fantasy ones. Historical because I personally quite like history, but for fantasy, I guess it's weird, because I never watch many anime that's set in a fantasy world, but when it comes to otome games, it's completely the opposite for me.
Though I admit, I'm done with high school settings. It's often way too tedious and repetitive to me - there's just nothing interesting about going to school every day; I already do that irl. =="

Yes, i also into the historical and fantasy genre than the everyday going to the boring highschool just to study and find some boys to f*ck with (sorry for harsh words, ehe ) ....because there's nothing you can do anyway in this kind of genre unless it has some kind of twist in it like a puzzle or something.. and it did hurt if there's more sci-fi otome settings , they are so rare and lacking nowadays.Gigglepud wrote:Nice! Re: What's your ideal otome game setting/genre
Time Travel !!
And then anything fantasy (but I'm tired of vampires and other creatures). You know, like discovering powers, getting stuck in an other Time/World.
But since I have something against mecha, I also dislike time travel to the future. So past, before the... let's say the 80s !
(Just because I just watch the movie Tokyo Girl, otherwise, I'd say before the 18th century x)
I actually just finished reading two books with Time travelling. One where the main girl goes back to medieval scotland, mistaken for a witch (and gets a Scottish laird for husband~) and an other where the girl is sent to prehistoric period and ends up with a guy who doesn't even speak (And yet it was fluffy and sweet and romantic ><)
So, those two time periods & settings would be interesting, especially the prehistoric one. It made me think of AreaX and Aloners, two otoge/VN I had really enjoyed !
@Last Post : The highschool setting isn't necessarily boring. If the characters and the story has something original, I can enjoy it just as much as a Time Travel one (No, I'm lying, Time travel is the best thing by far in books, movies and games xD ) let's say, as cool as fantasy.
I had really loved the Tokimeki Girl's side series, for example, and I still do. The titles (especially the third and first one) are among the top-titles in my Otoge list.
And the underwater idea sounds cool, though a spaceship would be about the same thing, right ?

Re: What's your ideal otome game setting/genre
I really like it when there are noble families involved. The kind of setting appropriate for butlers, curses and prophecies of destined lovers. It'd also work even if it were a noble family in a traditional japanese setting.
If not, I love mystery mansion settings. With murders and choices that may or may not lead to the heroine's death. But I dislike random choices like "go right" or "go left". I like a script where I'm supposed to try to find the best way to survive in a rational way.
