Sakimichi's JP Thread [Hiragana Stage]
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Hello, this is a self-motivation thread to learn the reading and writing system of Japan. Feel free to make your own too. Let's learn Japanese together~Goal 1: Finish memorizing all Hiragana by April
Goal 2: Finish memorizing all Katakana by May
Goal 3: Grammar Structure by June
Why I'm motivated to do this
I've always known I can't stick with ITH and TA forever, there are many great otome games on PSP but they are all in Japanese. Simple Visual novels are easy to understand, but my frustration to play dating simulations like Brothers Conflict motivated me to pursue studying JP language...and I know someday

Materials I'm using:
Notebook and a Hiragana Chart Print-out
Progress (Done):
a i u e o
ka ki ku ke ko

Muahaha. I'm still at it. I kin say things! And write things. I've been writing in hiragana for a few days now. It's getting easier! I dun hafta look up anything anymore! XD And and, this feels so cool.
それ は たべもの じゃありませんでした!
それ は 僕 の くるま でした!
僕 の くるま は たべもの じゃありません!
I uh, dunno if I did that right. ; And and, I'm not trying to show off or anything, I swear! I'm just trying to practice. >:

Re: Sakimichi's JP Thread [Hiragana Stage]
ふ is a difficult character to write, so is そ.
There are different ways to write both of them that are somewhat simpler, I figured you guys might like to know that. -w-
Also, once you've learned the characters try looking for images of stylized hiragana and reading those, it will help you recognize the characters better.
かんばて、みなさん!

Re: Sakimichi's JP Thread [Hiragana Stage]
I think I learned it by writing a lot.
Here's a free text editor:

It's very useful for translating too, I highly recommend it!

Re: Sakimichi's JP Thread [Hiragana Stage]
Writing your own flash cards or making your own on an online application greatly helps with memorisation. I recommend handwriting so you can remember the stroke order.
Handwriting is your ticket to quicker memorisation!

Is this still on? >< Hiragana and Katakana were covered in a day but I have not so much motivation for grammar. I've been stuck at the end of essential grammar from Tae Kim's guide.

I agree, writing is the best in my opinion as it teaches the difference between similar characters such as め&ぬ ソ&ン シ&ツ る&ろ
Writing 3-5 repeats of a single character a day will greatly help.
I also recommend converting a Romaji phrase/sentence to Hiragana/Katakana
AND I strongly recommend to do this with Iroha Uta, since it's like a Japanese alphabet poem/song
Good Luck Everyone!
